Gunpla, or Gundam model kits, are produced by Bandai for fans and enthusiasts who love the coolness of Gundam. They are used for assembling, collecting, and competing in beauty contests. Another area Bandai has created that appeals to Gundam fans is the gaming video series, Breaker, or Gundam Breaker. Currently, the game is in its fourth installment, following the success of the third game which further increased Gunpla’s popularity. Let’s take a look at what’s new in the fourth game!
- Story
Gundam Breaker 4 takes place in a futuristic world where Gunpla, or Gundam model kits, have been created as a simulation. This world is called GBBBB (Gunpla Battle Blaze: Beyond Borders), and our character is a Gunpla Builder who tests this simulation system. At the beginning of the game, our character meets a character named Tao, who will introduce us to the simulation system in more detail. After that, the game will have the player and the new Gunpla Builder character embark on a journey through the world of Gunpla battles. So, build your Gundam and let’s go!
- Customizing Gunpla
In this fourth installment, you assemble Gundam mechs to battle in each stage. Let me tell you, there are many different Gundam models to choose from, or Gunpla, ranging from early Gundam series to the latest (almost every century!). (Thanks to Bandai for including all the top models! Amazing!)
- Gunpla Customization Menu
This menu allows players to use Gunpla parts from the game’s missions to assemble their dream Gundam. (No matter what type of parts, players can use their imagination to create their own cool mech!)
- Gunpla Assembly Menu
This menu allows players to combine multiple Gunpla parts to upgrade their current Gunpla parts to a higher level. (This menu unlocks after playing the story for a while.) (Additional information: In the assembly menu, players can check the level of their Gunpla parts. The higher the level, the stronger the part.) The level of Gunpla parts goes all the way up to level 50. And if you’re not satisfied with the level of your Gunpla parts, the game provides special items: items to increase the level and items to increase the ability slots of Gunpla parts. (This is what I, the writer, call them; they have different names in the game, which I can’t remember. If anyone remembers, please comment!) These items drop after completing missions. The amount of these items you get after completing a mission depends on the difficulty level. The harder the mission, like the Newtype difficulty, the more items you get. Another interesting aspect of this game is the return of a system from Gunpla III: the ability to assemble a new mobile suit from parts of models you didn’t use in the game. This menu is called “Rebuild Menu” in Thai. You need to have the correct Gunpla parts required by the game; otherwise, you won’t be able to assemble the new Gunpla. Finally, in this build menu… The player will see the abilities, or skills, attached to each Gunpla part. Players can add these skills to Gunpla parts. Start by selecting the “Assemble” menu, then choose a Gunpla part; each part has different skills. The next menu allows the player to choose whether to add items to increase the level or add items to increase the ability slots of the Gunpla part. Then, the “Add Skill” menu will appear, allowing the player to add the skills attached to each selected Gunpla part to the part they will use to assemble their mobile suit. (This is all the special features of the Gundam Breaker 4 assembly menu.)
- Painting Menu
This menu allows players to paint, decorate, and apply stickers to the Gunpla they have assembled in the game. Players are free to do so according to their own creativity.
- Shop
In this game’s shop, players can use in-game currency (GP) to buy their favorite Gunpla and customize them as they like. Besides Gunpla, players can also purchase other items in the shop, including:
- Builder Parts (These are optional parts for customizing Gunpla. In the game, eight parts can be added, with a wide variety to choose from. This is similar to adding custom-built or assembled parts to your Gunpla, such as weapons, accessories, or other modifications.)
- MG Gunpla and HG Gunpla (Gunpla Box)
Players can purchase MG and HG Gunpla in the in-game shop. (Initially, only HG Gunpla will be available. If you purchase the game and all DLCs, i.e., the Ultimate Edition, you will receive a special bonus Gunpla that you can use at the start of the game.) Players must purchase the Ultimate Edition to access these exclusive features. MG Gunpla models will unlock after completing Story Mode and reaching the DLC content. Players will then have a chance to obtain MG parts from missions and purchase them from the in-game shop.
- Helmet Icon (Additional in-game profile picture)
Players can purchase their favorite profile pictures from this menu (and these profile pictures will unlock progressively as players progress through the game).
- Diorama Gunpla
This is a completely new menu in the game. Players can showcase their Gunpla creations to other players by recreating dioramas from various Gundam anime series. Once completed, they can show them off to other players (Gundam fans will love this!).
- Diorama Objects
This is another additional menu where players can explore and find what else is missing from their created dioramas. This menu will be an immediate help to players because it allows them to purchase decorative objects for their diorama scenes.
- Diorama Base
This menu allows players to purchase diorama backgrounds that they can use as a base according to their own imagination.
- ( Mission )
- Story Missions:
Players will enjoy the world of Gunpla and their friends in Gundam Breaker 4. Lead your powerful mobile suit into battle!
- Quest Missions:
If you want to collect even more Gunpla parts… Players can also access Quest Missions because some Story Mode missions might not have the Gunpla parts they want to collect, but Quest Missions do. Players can click on this mode to collect those Gunpla parts.
- Bounty Missions
These missions require players to use their Gunpla to battle other players’ Gunpla, similar to Gunpla Battle in the Gundam Build Fighters anime. (This mode can be played both offline and online. Offline mode involves battling NPCs within the game, while online mode involves battling other players.)
- Survival Missions
These missions require players to progress through levels, defeating enemy mechs until their Gunpla is destroyed.
(The further you progress, the tougher the enemies become.) (From what I remember, there are 50 survival levels in this mode, and I’ve only completed about 30 so far.)
